The Devil's Sweetheart

Darkness was gone and the day started to spill with birds chirping and the spring breeze. Painted in a hue of orange and allied with golden rays of the rising sun, the sky stood high inviting to fly high.

Leena was supposed to be in her brother's home by now, but due to her late-night sleeping, she was still bound to the bed. Although Devin didnot speak for a long time worried that she would get tired due to lack of sleep, Leena couldn't sleep with immense happiness. Only with Reese's continuous nagging, she woke up now.

"Can we skip going?" Leena yawned and grabbed her mobile to check for a message from him and as expected there was one.

"We can skip. But do you want to be killed by Will?" Reese tried to peep into Leena's mobile but Leena stashed away the mobile.

"Go and get a boyfriend for yourself instead of peeping," Leena rebuked and sent a cute gif to Devin and waited for a while. When she did not get a response, Leena got up from her bed assuming that he would be working out. One thing she understood is, he loves to push his body to the rims and mold it according to his taste and preferences. His taut muscles she felt when they were kissing was an illustration.

"It's because of you, I still don't have a boyfriend," Reese shouted but Leena was already gone to the bathroom.

After a long stretch of her shower, Leena got ready and fed Carrot with her breakfast. She went into the bedroom again and pulled a gift wrap from the cupboard.

"What is that?" Reese asked.

"It's a gift for Cutie," She added. Her niece bargained with gifts and chocolates to lend some confession pickup lines. "Let's go, Reese. It's already late."

Leena stepped into the car happily along with Reese and Carrot to see her niece after a long time without knowing there was a big commotion going on in her home.

A man strolled into the house in his jogging outfit carrying a piece of paper in his hands. Burning rage hissed through his body like a deathly poison. The moment he entered the hall, he shouted in a high pitched voice. "Savny Hayes, come out of your room! Do you dare to insult your father again?"

His loud voice echoed into the kitchen where a woman was busy readying the breakfast for her daughter. She sighed and walked out to find out the reason for his husband's fury this time. "What's wrong, Will. Let her sleep for some time. She is tired of the long flight journey."

"I will not let her sleep today." He screamed and focused the attention on his bratty daughter again. "Are you going to come down or you want me to come up?"

In the middle of their fervent discussion, a small dainty figure was sleeping peacefully with a slightly parted mouth. A baby anime cartoon quilt was wrapped around her shoulders securely. The loud voice made her slightly stir from the sleep.

Ignoring the voice, she was close to drifting into her la-la land again, the familiar noise reverberated again into her ears.

"What's with that moning alalam?" She mumbled in her baby voice, her eyes shined, like the pebbles in the ocean when she opened her eyes. Morning alarm is his dad's nickname that she calls in his absence. All the neighboring children complain about Cutie's bratty behavior to her dad and she always gets scoldings from him. Not that she minded his scoldings, but he would always wake her up when she is in the middle of her sleep and that's the reason she calls him 'morning alarm'.

Unable to withstand the mouthpiece, she got up from her bed and slowly walked out of the room. She began stepping down the stairs, her face looked fresh and clean, except that her hair was disheveled due to multiple times rolling on the bed.

"Savny_" Wilbur's thoughts cut off when he heard her small footsteps and gazed up to see his daughter slowly stepping down from the stairs.

"Dad! How many times I have to tell you. My name is Tootie." Cutie screamed at her father when he did not call her with a proper name.

"Tootie? You can't even pronounce your name properly and dared to argue back? When are you going to learn words properly? You are about to reach five and still struggle to get your tongue around the words." Watching her daughter's annoying face, Will's mood brightened up to some extent. Cutie would never accept if someone calls her Savny. Her favorite name is Cutie but sadly she can't roll her tongue on that name. There are some letters she can't pronounce properly and due to that people find it hard to understand her language.

Cutie clamped her small baby fists and glared at her father. Incapable of rolling her tongue around the words is the only catastrophe in her life and her annoying father would always brings in front of her to irritate furthermore.

"Don't mind your dad's words, Cutie dear. Go and brush your teeth. Your Leena is arriving soon." Hearing her mom's words, Cutie was on cloud nine thinking that Leena would be bringing chocolates and gifts. Immediately, she forgot his dad's reprimands and started to leave to brush her teeth but she was stopped by his dad again.

"Wilbur, don't torture her with_"

"Don't torture? Do you know what she has done?" Wilbur lingered for a while when the incident in the park surged back in his brain. He ground his teeth as he explained it to his wife "She has written a love letter to Kevin's son."

Immediately Cutie went on high alert mode. Annoying biscuit. Did he dare to give it to my dad despite the warning I have mentioned in the letter?

"See it for yourself." Wilbur handed the letter to his wife when she was not believing in him. Even Wilbur couldn't reckon that his daughter is capable of writing a love letter until he read it. Little did the father and mother knew, Cutie has been doing this for a long time but it has only appeared on the surface today.

Wilbur's thoughts suddenly flew back to the incident he encountered with his neighbor, Kevin's son when he started listening to the love letter.

Early in the morning, when Wilbur was jogging in the park, he heard someone calling him from behind. When he turned around, he was surprised to see Kevin's son in the park. With a smile, he greeted him. "What's up Dave? You are here to jog?"

"No. I am looking for you, uncle Wilbur. Where were you for the past month?" Dave twitched his eyes and pushed the eyeglasses from his nose bridge.

"I was in Europe. What do you want to talk about?" Will asked, surprised that he is waiting for one whole month.

Handing a piece of letter, Dave explained. "One month back, your daughter has written a love letter. Please tell her that I am not interested in her. She has made ample spelling mistakes and I have corrected them. Ask her to learn spellings first before proposing to someone."

Dave tried to chill his rage as he talked with Wilbur. He has been named as a genius in the school and every day he receives many proposals from girls, be it in school or his neighborhood. But Cutie's letter has hurt his ego to the core. Although she has written a letter of confession, he felt that she has castigated his looks. He couldn't tolerate when she called his butt big and to his annoyance, she compared his face to a monkey.

Without waiting for Wilbur's reply, Dave walked away happily thinking that bratty Cutie gets nice whipping from his dad today. Right after coming from his stupor, Wilbur rushed out of the park to deal with her shameless daughter.

"You don't even know to write alphabets properly, how did you frame big sentences?" Wilbur asked his daughter coming back from his reverie of thoughts. Day by day, her behavior is reminding him of Leena.

Cutie kept mum without replying to her dad's question. She bribed her neighbor Elsie with chocolates to write a letter for that annoying cookie, Dave. Although his face doesn't match up with her beauty, she thought of considering him since he is defined as a genius by many people. So, Elsie helped her with the spellings but Cutie never thought that the annoying girl is very poor in spellings even when she has entered into third grade.

"Writing love letters, giving excuses for the school, climbing trees in the park, fighting with kids, where are you learning all these things?" Wilbur started reprimanding until his wife cut him off.

"Did you really write a letter to that annoying cookie, Cuite?" Her mom's voice reverberated into her ears.

"I was bored, mom." With a pout, her gaze lifted to her mom. "But you know that I have cush on dad's fend alledy"

"He is not your age, sweetie." Her mom tried to explain but Cutie has fixed his eyes on that someone for a long time. Her mom told her that she would bring a handsome husband in the future and Cutie has never seen someone as handsome as his dad's friend. From then on, she fixed her eyes on him.

"Bing him to my baday, dad." With a shy smile, Cutie looked at his dad and spoke in a voice which was hard to comprehend

"I am not bringing him and don't even think about it," It's been tough on him from the day, his sister arrived into this land, and now that another brat joined with her, it has become arduous and he doesn't want his friend to be entangled between these two.

"Will, it's our daughter's birthday. You are bringing him to_

Before she could end her words, a ring buzzed. Cutie scrambled from the place thinking that it must be Leena and waited for his mom to appear since she cannot open the door by herself.

"Jane...." Leena and Reese screamed in unison the moment the door was opened. "We missed you."

"I missed you guys a lot." All three hugged meeting after a long time.. From the university days, all three have been together in thick and thin and Leena never thought that her best friend would become her sister-in-law in the end.
