Chapter 140: A New Horror
Chapter 140: A New Horror
Luckily, Kace found has equipment stored within a room nearby. It would have been embarrassing for him to run around butt naked. It only took him a few minutes to equip his gear. 'I need to find out what's going on.' Kace was perplexed at what was going on, he also had no idea how long he had been out for. He looked to his side, eyeing the goblin. Kace was perplexed at what was going on, he also had no idea how long he had been out for. He turned his sights on Shadow.
"Shadow, can you tell me what the hell is going on around here? I haven't seen anyone since I woke up." Kace asked the sneaky little goblin.
Shadow thought about it for a moment, his mind considered the many things that he had listened in on over the past few days. There was one thing that he thought might be the answer to this question.
"It could be because the soon-to-be king has escaped. The queen is in an uproar over the whole thing. She even threw her friend in jail." Shadow replied carefully.
Kace was rather concerned, why would he even feel the need to escape? Had something happened while he had been unconscious? There was only one way to find out more. He would have to search for someone who knew more about it. Now that he was fully dressed, the pair quickly left the room. Looking up and down the corridor, Kace noticed that there was no one to be seen.
He had expected for someone to check in on him. He had considered the idea that the magic on his room's door may have had a way of notifying somebody when the door was opened. Apparently, that was not the case. So now, they would have to search the castle on their own to find anyone who could give him more details.
"Shadow, you had better make yourself disappear for now. We can't have anyone seen you by accident." Kace said as he looked at the goblin beside him. "Make sure that you are ready should I need you."
Shadow willingly complied with his order. As if performing a swan dive, he jumped into the darkest part of the hall. Seconds later, his bright blue, glowing eyes could be seen peeking out. Kace nodded in satisfaction, at least he knew he would have some backup should he need it. Now, the question is, where has everyone gone?
Kace began to run at full speed, easily covering a large amount of distance in a short time. Everywhere he went, he could find no trace of anybody. It was as if everyone had vacated the castle. Which could very well be exactly what has happened. As he turned the next corner, he felt his body slam into something solid. He stumbled backwards trying to recover from the shock.
What he saw was one of the gargoyles, it seemed to be patrolling the area. Even if he asked it for any information, it was incapable of speech that he could recognise. Ignoring its presence, he skirted around it and carried on at full speed. He soon came to one of the ancient, long staircases. He could hear the sounds of battle coming from a few falls below.
'That could be exactly what I'm looking for.' He thought as he began to take two steps at a time. He was practically flying down the stairs, all the while the din of battle grew louder as he approached. His heart began to race, he recognised Sophia's voice yelling amongst the crowd. However, he could not make out exactly what she was saying.
Feeling that time was against him, he began to use Stampede to jump over half of the stairs belonging to each set at a time. He rushed on, feeling the blood pumping through his veins as the adrenaline kicked in. There is no telling what danger his friends could be in at this moment.
What had started as a simple search had now turned into something that was possibly sinister. As he jumped over the last stairs, that blocked his view from the floor where the fighting was taking place, his eyes widened in shock. There was a creature standing in the centre of an open floor, at least twenty dead vampires were scattered on the floor around him. However, that was not the most shocking thing. What truly troubled Kace was the fact that he recognised this creature.
He tried to summon Sylvan and his weapon form, momentarily forgetting that his partner was not currently responding to him. A moment of despair flickered across his eyes as he looked at the creature once again.' Mr Thomas, what have you done?'
The creature was indeed Mr Thomas, Celia had upheld her end of their deal. He no longer appeared to feel pain, as a vampire stabbed his shoulder with his blade. The blade quickly cut through his flesh, slicing into the muscle below. There was no scream of pain as one would expect, in fact, there was not even a drop of blood spilt. The vampire appeared confused, as Mr Thomas reached up with his hand and grabbed him by the face.
In the next moment, he pulled the vampire towards him as he stepped to the side while releasing his grip on him. Then with his other hand, he swung his own blade down on the back of the vampire's neck. Severing it from his body, the other vampires stared in shock at their friends head rolling across the floor. His dead eyes stared at them accusingly.
Sophia felt hopeless, as another of them fell to this monster. She thought that she may have an idea as to what he was. If she was right, then there would be no saving Celia from the fate that would come. As she stared at Mr Thomas, he suddenly confirmed her worst fears, as he turned into a black mist that disappeared entirely. 'Fuck, he's really a wraith'
