Chapter 736 - Two Torturous Weeks
Chapter 736 - Two Torturous Weeks
Two days passed in the blink of an eye after her discussion with the Marquess.
Every day, new invitations for tea parties began pouring in from numerous households.
Yvonne fretted over which parties her mother would drag her along to but even to this day, that information had been kept a secret from her.
The only information she had received in the last two days was that the meeting she had set up between Marquess Samed and the other person had gone smoothly.
Her tutor had even brought back a few slices of that delectable apple pie for her to enjoy during their class the next day after his meeting with that mysterious person.
The little girl did not reject his kind gesture but at the same time was surprised to see him enjoy that pie with her.
When she had first suggested that he buy a few slices of pie from that commoner's cafe, he had appeared reluctant.
However, within the span of a single day, he had changed his mind and had no qualms in consuming that same dessert prepared by a commoner.
'No one can resist that place's pies.' She declared because she was just the same.
Sadly, she might not be able to enjoy that delicious pie in the future.
After all, in Asmodeus's script, Willow's cafe would become the frequent date spot for the male and female lead a few years later.
Therefore, she was determined to make the best of the time she had now where she could visit it any time without the fear of encountering the troublesome pair who might wreck her peaceful life.
So when Marquess confessed that he had come to like that pie as well, she revealed that she had similar feelings towards that pie.
The pie was another common factor between them, making their bond stronger which had lightened the Marquess's heart.
To express his gratitude for introducing both that mysterious person and the cafe to him, he decided to be excessively generous towards her.
Thus he prepared a detailed list of people who would be holding tea parties in the two weeks and also the most probable guest list to each of these parties.
Yvonne would still be in the Capital for the next two weeks so she only cared about the parties taking place in this period.
What happened after she left for the Valente fief was not her problem, so she had asked him to not even bother compiling a list for that time as well.
This decreased his workload so the Marquess did not insist and did as he was told.
According to the information she gained from him, the first party to be held was hosted by Duchess Tanner.
As always, his information was proven to be right as two days had passed since then and today was the day of the Tanner party.
This event marked the beginning of the torturous two weeks that she would have to endure before she could escape to the Valente fief for her birthday celebration.
Following her usual routine, she had attended her class with the Captain but the classes after breakfast had been canceled.
The tea party would begin after ten in the morning so Countess Raylene St. Claire had already informed the respective tutors to not come by as their entire family would be away.
Despite wanting to stay back at home and study, Howard was also given strict instructions that he too had to attend this party.
No excuse could be used to get out of going to this party as it was being hosted by a Ducal family.
Since he was too worried about his studies, Raylene had promised that he only needed to attend the parties organized by the Ducal families and could stay back at home for the rest.
Sadly, when Yvonne had pouted in an attempt to avail the same privilege as her brother, Raylene had not glanced at her sulking face to avoid melting under that adorable gaze.
Thus right now, that same little girl was being helped by her maids to get dressed for the party that was about to begin in no time.
Yvonne could not get out of this obligation under any circumstances so she had admitted defeat at the very end but had proclaimed that she had a condition of her own.
'Thank goodness I insisted on selecting my own clothes.' She sighed while glancing at the dress laid on the bed.
Early this morning, her mother had sent Roselie over with a dress that she hoped the child would wear.
However, Yvonne had given a firm and immediate rejection which the young maid relayed to the Madam.
The Countess wished the child to look pretty for this event.
Her adorable visage was already enough to garner attention from others and the mother desired to amplify its effect by using a cute and puffy dress that would make her look even more like a little doll.
Yvonne's strict refusal had made the Countess sad but the Earl had stepped in and asked her to compromise this time since their daughter had agreed to come along with them willingly.
Listening to his advice, Raylene gave in and permitted her to wear whatever she wished.
Thanks to this, the little girl was now in a pretty lilac dress that ended just above her ankles.
Unlike the pink puffy dress sent by her mother, this one had fewer layers and was comfortable to move around in.
Summer was already here and she did not wish to be stuck in a thick dress as the tea party would most certainly be held in an outdoor setting.
Just thinking of sweating in that heavy dress was making her grimace.
Therefore, she had insisted on wearing this lilac dress which had little lilac flowers embroidered at the borders with a vibrant violet color.
The dress was simple but no one could point out any flaws in the attire she had chosen for herself today.
"Miss, why don't you wear the amethyst Madam had bought for you?" Mrs. Jacinth suggested while holding up the pendant made of a precious gem the same color as her eyes.
Yvonne snapped out of her thoughts, comparing the two dresses, and fixed her eyes on the piece of jewelry in her nanny's hands.
While her nanny's choice worked well with her outfit for the day, her gaze inadvertently fell on another piece laid in the jewelry box on the dresser table.
Roselie was combing her hair and had noticed this side glance Yvonne had given to the other piece and wondered if that was the right choice for the dress their Miss was wearing today.
"Miss, the amethyst would look better." She mentioned, agreeing with the older maid's choice.
Yvonne bit her lip and nodded as she too knew that the amethyst would go with her dress but her heart wished to wear the other one.
Her mental battle to choose one of them lasted for a few seconds before she had made her decision.
"Yes, Nanny." She nodded, allowing the maid to help her clasp the chain with the amethyst pendant around her neck.
The two maids smiled happily while looking at the final result of their hard work.
The child's hair was left loose, cascading down her shoulders with only a petite black hair clip to help keep her hair away from her face.
The lilac dress had short sleeves which ended just below her elbows and was not something girls always preferred.
However, Yvonne did not care as she did not wish to suffocate in tight and heavy clothes when the temperature in the Capital was rising every single day.
Therefore, she smiled in satisfaction while admiring the lightweight and comfortable dress she was wearing right now.
Even her sleek but steady black shoes were easy to walk around in and would not give her blisters, unlike the dress shoes with heels that were available in the Commercial District.
After approving her look for the day, Yvonne stood up from her seat before the large mirror attached to her dresser table to ensure that she had everything she needed.
Her maids were gazing at her with eager eyes which she had felt for a while now, making her let out a soft sigh.
Turning towards them, she picked up the edges of her dress and twirled around for them.
'I feel so stupid…' She grimaced when her body stopped before giving her maids a wide smile.
"How do I look?" She inquired and the awe-filled eyes they were shooting at her were more than enough answer for her.
Yet, Roselie and Mrs.. Jacinth showered her with lavish praises and though Yvonne appeared to be bashful, it was undeniable that she was liking this very much.
