Chapter 78: Warmth (1)
Ye Sui ran to the scene of the car accident, which was already packed with people. She failed to squeeze in, however. Helpless, she could only stand outside the crowd and tiptoe to look inside.
In the bitter, cold night, the dim light made it darker and darker. Ye Sui could vaguely discern that the color of the crashed car was black, but the model could not be seen clearly.
As the autumn wind blew on her face, Ye Sui’s tears tumbled from her eyes. Warm tears rolled across her cheeks, making the surrounding chill even more vivid.
Chen Shu’s car was also black. At this moment, Ye Sui could not help but panic. Her mind was overwhelmed by chaotic ideas.
Did the car belong to Chen Shu? What if something happened to him? She hadn’t lived a better life with him; how could he go first?
Ye Sui stood in the crowd and cried silently. Her shoulders trembled, her face wet with tears.
At that time, Chen Shu was driving, and the accident had taken place not far in front of him. The sound of the collision was so loud, the noise penetrated through inside the car.
Coincidentally, a low battery notification popped up, and Chen Shu’s cell phone just ran out of power. After shutting down, Ye Sui’s voice disappeared at the other end of the phone.
Chen Shu could not reach Ye Sui. He found a place to stop and immediately parked the car on the roadside. Since the cell phone turned off so abruptly, the last sound that Ye Sui heard from him was the loud crash.
Chen Shu had reached near Ye Sui’s worksite. She would certainly come to the scene of the car accident to check.
He suspected that Ye Sui might be there.
Chen Shu parked the car quickly and hurried to the scene. Among the jam-packed crowd, strange figures, one after another, whispered to each other.
Chen Shu looked around, and his eyes stopped on a familiar figure.
He had seen the coat Ye Sui was wearing at home, so he immediately recognized her. The two of them were separated by a certain distance. Chen Shu walked in little by little, closing the gap.
Soon, he noticed that she seemed to be crying.
Public places were too conspicuous, though. Chen Shu did not call Ye Sui by her name. His words rolled around his lips, and he slowly spat out one word, “Wife.”
It was clear that there was so much noise around since all the onlookers were there, but Chen Shu’s voice passed through the air and clearly reached Ye Sui’s ear.
Although Chen Shu didn’t call her name, the voice was too familiar. Ye Sui’s body froze in an instant. She couldn’t believe her ears at all.
The place was too chaotic. Chen Shu pushed the crowd aside and walked behind Ye Sui. He held out his hand and gently pressed it on her shoulder, as if to appease her emotions.
Ye Sui gradually turned around and moved her head, meeting Chen Shu’s familiar and fair eyes.
When Ye Sui turned around, her tears were still falling like a waterfall. Her eyes were red, as if she had spent the whole night crying. Her lips were sealed tight, maybe too agitated to say anything.
Chen Shu looked at Ye Sui and stared into her eyes. “Don’t worry, I’m not hurt.”
Ye Sui’s crying stopped slowly. She gasped, but her throat was so dry that she couldn’t utter a word.
Chen Shu pulled Ye Sui’s hat down, took off his scarf, and wrapped it around her, hiding her face from other people.
His voice was gentle, as if scared of disturbing the moonlight. “Shall we go home?”
Ye Sui didn’t speak, only nodding vigorously. She would follow Chen Shu home and would not let him get hurt in the future.
A horde of ghosts stood outside the crowd, spectating the scene.
The man who was involved in the car accident had now become a ghost, and his soul was standing not far away, looking at the living world in a daze.
If he hadn’t been drunk, if he had not been driving under the influence, if he had been a bit more careful... maybe there would be no car accident.
Chen Shu reached out his hand and took Ye Sui’s. Sensing it was extremely cold, his brows slightly furrowed, pulling a little tighter.
