Chapter 140 - YOU WILL DIE
The two men entered the apartment unit one after another. The taller man was slightly left behind, so he was the one who closed the door. The person in the front had taken off his shoes and put them on the shoe rack, and the person in the back followed the lead.
No one was speaking ever since the two men left the orphanage and went back to their apartment. The ride was cold and tense as if they were traveling in between the glaciers.
Kevin was about to head straight to their room, but his movement halted when he was suddenly being hugged from behind. He looked down and found a pair of muscular arms circled his flat stomach.
"Are you ready for the extraction, Kev? For real without a slight of hesitation?"
The scientist heard a soft voice coming from behind as he felt his left shoulder got heavier. His lover just rested his chin on the broad shoulder after uttering the weak question.
"I'm ready, Kris," Kevin answered. "I want to help the werewolves and want to fully concentrate on our investigation."
"But, the extraction sounds scary!"
Kevin couldn't help but chuckle when he heard his lover's worried tone. He then carefully pulled apart Kris's hands on his stomach and turned around to face the taller lover. He then cupped his lover's warm face with his cold hands.
"It seems like you are the one who is not ready, Kris," the shorter man teased his lover, and the said lover frowned. "You are not ready to lose your favorite anime boy, are you?"
Kris froze. His lover was now laughing heartily in front of him as if he was the happiest person in the world. The laugh was enough to erase his worry, and he took Kevin's hands away from his face before leaning forward to kiss his lover's fair cheek.
"I really love you, Kev," he whispered as he kept kissing his lover's cheeks.
That was not a short kiss as Kris continued kissing the cheeks, seeming to want to mark the smooth cheeks.
Kevin was a bit taken aback by the sudden action, and his cheeks burning under his boyfriend's kisses. After a few seconds, he suddenly lifted his left hand to hold Kris's nape and used his right hand to cover his lover's eyes. Kris was surprised and tried to free himself, but Kevin held him in place.
The black-haired scientist concentrated his mind for a moment before he finally let go of his lover. Kris straightened his back again and was about to scold Kevin when his eyes caught something pleasing in front of him.
"My anime boy!" The taller man exclaimed excitedly.
Yes, Kevin just transformed into a man with white hair and a pair of blue eyes. That was Kris's favorite anime boy. The taller boy's eyes sparkled at the sight in front of him.
"Just enjoy this view before you no longer have the chance to enjoy it, Kris," Kevin said as he walked over to the sofa and sat down on top of it.
Kris followed his lover and sat down beside him. "I missed my anime boy so much!" Kris once again exclaimed like a little kid. He started hugging his lover from the side as if he was afraid to lose the anime boy.
Kevin just chuckled while shaking his head in amusement. Sometimes, he just needed to do the smallest thing to make his lover happy.
The atmosphere was warm and peaceful for a moment, but then Kris's face suddenly turned solemn again. "You also don't need to take Jack's word to your heart, Kev," he broke the silence again.
"Which words?" Kevin asked in confusion.
"His words about your foster parents," Kris answered as he sighed. "He's just a reckless man who doesn't know how to control his mouth. We can't be sure if your foster parents are related to the abandoned mine."
Kevin was silent as his eyes continued to stare at his handsome lover. There were many things on his mind, and he was sorting the things before voicing them to his lover.
"I'm indeed thinking about Jack's words, Kris," Kevin finally replied. "But, I'm not thinking about his words related to my foster parents. I'm thinking about his other words."
"Huh?" Kris asked as he tilted his head a little.
Kevin drew his gaze away from his lover and sighed. "I'm thinking about you and Jack. What are you two hiding from me, Kris?" He asked back.
The caramel-haired man was stunned. He gulped nervously and carefully let go of Kevin's body. He ducked his head, staring blankly at his feet.
Kevin turned his head to Kris again and patiently wait for the answer. He didn't mean to press his lover, but his curiosity bothered him so much today. Both Kris and Jack were acting strangely, and he just wanted to know the truth about them.
"We were really fighting before you suddenly entered the living room today, Kev," Kris started explaining. "We were just teasing each other, but suddenly he told me something unexpected. But I swear that we weren't going to kiss at the time!"
Kevin facepalmed at the explanation. "Then, what did Jack tell you to bring you two in that awkward position?" He asked again.
Kris sighed and leaned his back against the back of the sofa. "I was just about to ask him about that when you suddenly came in," he answered. "I need to clarify it to him first before I can tell you about it. Moreover, the thing Jack told me today was his secret, not mine. I can't tell you about that even if I want to, Kev."
The scientist frowned in confusion. He just saw a dim light, but then it was dark again around him. He was now confused again about the matter between Kris and Jack.
But, he could only sigh again in the end. "Alright, I understand." He decided to stop prying. "I'm glad that you're considering Jack's feelings. If it was Jack's secret and he only wanted to tell you about that, then you don't need to tell me about the secret. It might offend Jack if you reveal his secret to other people."
Kris finally could breathe a sigh of relief. He was lucky to have an understanding lover like Kevin. He then straightened his body again and was about to kiss Kevin, but the said man stopped his movement by pressing his palms on his lips.
"I will wake my son up first. You sit here like a good kid, alright?"
And he was speechless when he saw his lover suddenly got up and walked toward a room in their apartment. It seemed like he felt insulted when his lover treated him as a little kid.
The said son was apparently a robot. It was AZURE to be precise. Kevin went back to the living room again with AZURE in his arms. He was like holding a baby, and Kris was more speechless than ever. His lover couldn't stop treating the blue-eyed robot as their son, and sometimes it made him cringe.
The scientist sat beside him again as his index finger pressed the small button on the robot's chest. Kris turned AZURE off before they left the apartment this morning, and now Kevin woke up the sleeping son by pressing the button.
"Hello, Master!" The small robot greeted him as soon as it was activated again. The blue eyes flickered brightly as if it was smiling with its eyes.
Kevin placed it on the floor and threw a fatherly smile at the robot. "How was your sleep, my son?" He asked as if he was asking a living child.
Kris rolled his eyes but didn't say anything. He was used to seeing the bizarre interaction between his lover and the robot. The sight was ridiculous and cute at the same time.
"I saved my energy today, Master. Now I'm ready to serve you with anything. How may I help you, Master?"
Kevin smiled tenderly and rubbed the robot's bald head. "I want to do the extraction procedure soon, so I want you to get ready for that," he answered.
The robot didn't immediately answer and just blinked its eyes innocently. It turned to Kris, but the latter just shrugged.
"Are you sure you are ready to do that, Master?" The robot asked again as he turned back to Kevin.
"Yeah, I've been thinking about that for a long time, and I'm all ready now. We can do the procedure anytime."
The robot kept blinking at him with its innocent blue eyes. "Do you know the consequence of the procedure, Master?" It asked again.
"The consequence?" Kevin asked back as he frowned. "I don't know the details, and I only know that the procedure may endanger my life if I'm not physically and mentally ready. But, I'm now ready physically and mentally, so you don't have to worry."
The robot glanced again at Kris, but the latter avoided its gaze. "You're not the only one who has to be ready for the procedure, Master," it answered as its gaze focused on Kevin again. "Kris has to be ready as well. If he's not ready, both of you will die."
