The Blue Eyes

Chapter 134 - BLUE SAPPHIRE BOMB

From the moment he drove the red car past the tall gate, he knew that the house was not an ordinary house.

Before the armed guards let his car past the tall gate, they carefully checked his identity and the inside of the car completely. After confirming that he was an honorable guest, they saluted him and opened the high gate for him. He could only frown at the unexpected welcome.

He drove the car closer to the big mansion, and it took several minutes for him to reach the mansion. The green yard was so wide. It was like a garden in fantasy movies. There were flowers and trees, and there were also some small animals in cages.

When he finally parked the red car in front of the mansion, his sharp eyes noticed some surveillance cameras around the mansion. It was definitely not an ordinary mansion.

And yeah, it was indeed not an ordinary mansion. It was Derek Dawson's mansion. He was a former General with a great reputation, so no wonder that his house was this majestic. Not only that, but the security system in the house was also incomparable to any other house.

Kevin was sitting with the mansion's owner. The living room was so splendid with luxury furniture. The most eye-catching object in the room was probably the crystal chandelier hanging above the sofa set. It attracted Kevin's attention the moment he stepped into the mansion.

"It's an honor to have you visit me today, Kevin," the grey-haired man spoke as he smiled widely at his guest.

He looked relaxed in his own house. He was just wearing a black t-shirt combined with a pair of brown pants. The image contrasted with the image he displayed when they had dinner together in the five stars hotel a few days ago.

"I apologize for my sudden visit, Mr. Dawson."

Hearing how the young man addressed him, the former General scowled. "Don't you remember that I asked you to call me uncle?" He asked in a displeasing tone.

Kevin seemed to forget about that, and he smiled guiltily. "I apologize, Uncle," he replied politely. "My mind was occupied by many things and I forgot about your request."

The older man furrowed his eyebrows deeper at the answer. "Are you okay, Kevin? I can see that you have a lot of things on your mind," he said softly.

Kevin didn't immediately respond. He knew that he needed to be careful with this man. To be precise, he needed to be careful with anyone except Kris, Blue, and Jack. That was their final decision yesterday. They agreed to be cautious and not easily believe in anyone.

"I just... miss my mom, Uncle," Kevin finally replied. He decided to take things slowly and threw some baits to the man first.

Hearing the young man's answer, Derek sighed sorrowfully. "I've expected it," he stated. "It's not strange if you miss your mom, Kevin. She was always with you all the time even if you didn't recognize her before. Now that she's gone, it's normal for you to miss her presence."

Kevin nodded in agreement. "Uncle, did the army find anything related to my mother when they were investigating the island?" Kevin started to throw the bait.

There were two reasons why he met the former General today. The first reason was that the old man had a close relationship with his parents in the past. He probably knew one secret or two about his parents, and if he was lucky, perhaps he could snatch a new clue related to the case they were investigating.

The second reason was that the man was an important person in the government. The man had lived for so long and had more experience and knowledge than him. He planned to make a query about Rodein with the man. But, of course, he would do it subtlely.

"You were asking about the army's investigation after the explosion?" The former general asked back, and Kevin nodded. The old man seemed to contemplate for a seconds before continuing, "The army didn't have the right to investigate the case, Kevin. It's the police that have the right to investigate the matter. The army went to the island just to help the police collect the pieces of information."

Kevin knew about that fact, but he didn't know anyone in the police, so he needed the older man's help. That was why he asked that question to the older man.

"I can't give you any information about the investigation, but I can give you information about your mother before she died, Kevin."

Kevin's heart skipped a beat when he heard the man's next statement. "Information about my mother before she died?" He parroted.

The other man nodded. "It's not really information, though. It's more like a confession from me, Kevin," he said as his old eyes gazed at Kevin guiltily. "A month before the incident on the island, your mother asked me to make a micro bomb for her. That's the blue sapphire bomb that exploded on the island that day, Kevin. I was the one who created that bomb for your mother."

Kevin's eyes enlarged in surprise after he heard the confession. He thought his mother was the one who created the bomb, but it turned out that his mother borrowed a hand to do that.

"My mother asked you to do that, and you complied with her order, Uncle?" The younger man asked in a shaky voice.

"Yes, Kevin," the old man answered gloomily. "I have no other choice than to comply with her wish."

Kevin stared at the man with an unreadable gaze. "Did you know that my mother had a plan to commit suicide with my father at that time?" He asked again.

The older man shifted his gaze from Kevin, and his hands on top of his laps were interlocking nervously. "Yes, Kevin. I knew that your mother would commit suicide with your father back then," he answered in a low voice.

Kevin's jaw tensed, and he gazed at the man in skepticism. "You did know about that, but you still complied with her wish?" He asked again in a slightly harsh tone.

The grey-haired man fell silent. He didn't dare to look at Kevin and just stared at the marble floor in front of him. Kevin could see that the man was feeling guilty, but he was still upset with the man.

"You shouldn't have let her do that, Uncle," the younger man said again, this time in a weak tone.

Derek finally looked back at Kevin. His eyes were still full of guiltiness. "I know, Kevin," he replied. "But I also know that your mother had been tired of all the tragedy. She needed a good rest, Kevin."

"Death is not a good rest," Kevin quickly rebuked. "You assisted my mother to commit suicide, and I won't thank you for that."

Kevin was angry, yes, he was truly angry. He thought his mother planned the suicide all by herself, so he didn't blame anyone for that. But, after knowing that the former General knew that plan all along, he couldn't help but feel upset.

"I really am sorry, Kevin," the older man finally apologized sincerely.

Kevin's heart was still in a pain, and he glimpsed at the other man coldly. It was not easy to forgive the man, but he also knew that his anger wouldn't change anything. His mother had gone and would never come back even if he killed Derek Dawson right now.

In the end, the young scientist sighed and replied, "I forgive you, Uncle."

Derek's face brightened upon hearing the reply. "Are you sure, Kevin? You've forgiven me for real?" He asked excitedly.

"Yes, Uncle. It's no use for me to hate you," Kevin simply replied. It was hard, but he tried to smile at the older man.

"Thank you, Kevin. Thank you so much!"

Kevin only smiled, but he didn't say anything. He still tried to mend his broken heart and to forget about her mother's suicide. There was no use to regret what had happened in the past.

The scientist's almond eyes wandered around the living room, and suddenly they caught an interesting object on the wall. He then got up and walked toward the wall, then stopped in front of a photo frame hanging on the wall.

"Is it your photo with my parents when you're still young, Uncle?" Kevin asked as his eyes continued to stare at the photo.

The older man had been looking at Kevin since the latter got up from his seat. He seemed confused when Kevin suddenly walked toward the wall, but now he understood the young scientist's sudden action.

"Yes, that was when we were in our 20s. Your parents were in college, and I was already in the army back then."

Kevin nodded in understanding, but then his eyes narrowed at the photo. There were six people in the photo, and besides his parents and the former general, he also recognized two more people in the photo.

He then looked back at the older man and asked, "Are you also friends with my foster parents, Uncle?"
