Vol. 8 - Chapter 402 - ‹Support Department› Member Part 2! What? An Adventurer? Rejected!
With Nico's self-introduction coming to an end, we proceeded with our next member.
"My turn, eh."
Next to Nico, the girl rose from her seat, offering a slight bow. Her tousled purple hair, styled in a short, boyish fashion, swayed with the motion. Her eyes were the same colour as her hair, showing her determined spirit. She had quite an athletic body, giving her the sport-minded girl vibe.
She should be as tall as Ester, but her sculpted legs brought an added charm to her appearance.
"Much like Nico, I am also from ‹Support Department Class 1-2›. Please call me Kairi. I used to be in the E-rank guild ‹Adventurers› a while back, but due to some reasons, I am now imposing myself on ‹Arc-Arcadia›. My job is ‹Seeker LV13›. I might still be a rookie in contrast to seniors here but I will try my best to become a reliable explorer in the future. I am in charge of searching traps, hidden pathways, treasure chest and scouting in the dungeon. I hope to learn many more things here."
Kairi finished her introduction and offered a bow again. Everyone gave a round of applause to her.
Kairi, just like Nico, was also someone I had tasked Misato to look for. ‹Seeker› was a high-ranking job in the ‹Explorer› category which, as its name implies, specialises in exploring the dungeon.
In addition to the abilities Kairi mentioned, she also had the map production ability and correction for when harvesting to some extent. The job was also capable of dealing with topography that started appearing from advanced dungeons if it were to be promoted.
It was honestly quite an all-rounder job that could do anything but fight. Every single skill of ‹Seeker› job was oriented for exploration.
Well, it's a pity for the lack of battle power, but on the flip side, it was quite reliable when it came to the dungeon.
One of my main reasons to scout her was to deal with the terrains that would start appearing from advanced dungeons. There were a lot of terrain like desert, volcanos, ice and snow zones, snowy mountains or jungle etc that were equally bothersome to deal with. Then, add on the environmental damage and you undoubtedly get a firsthand experience of what it feels like to be either a frozen popsicle or a grilled steak etc.
Items were generally handy in such situations, but even they could only defend to some extent. So I really wanted one of ‹Explorer› jobs to make sure of a hitch-free experience. ‹Eden› exploration speed was staked on it after all.
Speaking of, there was also an ‹Adventurer› job category next to them who were quite versed in combat. Though, for the same part, their explorer abilities were quite shortened. The saying Jack of all trades but master of none perfectly applied to them. And the worse part? Their combat abilities were no better than production job holders which made their positioning quite awkward, which was neither fish nor fowl. Well, ‹Adventurer› often teamed with ‹Ranger› or ‹Hunter› to cover up their weak points, so I guess there was some salvation at least.
Though my exploration mindset said to let the expert do the handling—combat jobs for battle and explorer jobs for investigation and search. In the end, it just boiled down to personal preference.
Since members were obviously unaware about the usefulness of ‹Explorer›, I explained to them.
"Terrains are one of the achilles' heels that will show up when dealing with advanced dungeons. There will come a time when ‹Thunder Javelin› won't be able to break through like now due to bad roads etc. Then, you will come to the juncture where the way to the next way was hidden under a hidden passage that would make you think 'If only we had someone with Seeker job'. Our new member is in anticipation for that."
Everyone listened intently since it was about the advanced dungeons.
"I heard the same terrain gave ‹King Victory› of the past quite a good amount of headache, and after bringing a ‹Seeker›, the expedition led by the crown prince of that time—now, the King—managed to make a breakthrough."
Sierra further adds in.
That's right. They were almost indispensable for the starting of advanced dungeons at the very least. It wasn't like there was no way to get past the hidden passage, but as they say, it was easier to overlook the forests for the trees. ‹Seeker› was that addition that you might not need, but you would pray to have one. The amount of time they could save us from taking unnecessary routes etc was simply a life-savour. The present king surely had taken a good decision.
"Woah-mazing."
Hannah once again started with her strange wording, amazed by hearing Sierra's story. Everyone was now looking at Kairi in a new light.
"Fufu, expectation seems to be piling on me. I intend to do everything within my capabilities to meet the expectations."
Kairi's cheek flared a bit as she put up a wry smile and sat down on her seat.
It was a waste of human resources to let such a wonderful job eat dust in the E-rank guild. Her former guild, ‹Adventures›, was a gathering of all sorts of utility type jobs like ‹Searcher›, ‹Adventurer› from ‹Collection Department›, ‹Trap Disarming Department› or ‹Investigation Department›.
At a glance, that place seemed to be a treasure trove of excellent talents. But if I were to point out a downside, it was the lack of combat jobs. It was impossible to make progress in the dungeon without them, and that was the same for the guild battles. To put it in short, they seemed to be content with being an E-rank guild.
It was like the legendary treasure trove that adventurers sought on the high seas turned out to be gradually consumed by termites.
It was in one such moment our headhunter Misato showed herself. Upon receiving my directive to search for a job in the ‹Explorer› category—and if possible, a ‹Seeker›—she promptly boarded into negotiation with ‹Adventures›.
There were two members, both 3rd year students, with ‹Searcher› jobs, and Kairi with ‹Seeker› job. She swiftly picked up Kairi as a potential candidate. There was also an ‹Adventurer› job holder who seemed to be promoting himself crazily. Well, I might have considered it if it was ‹Big Adventurer›, the high-ranking version of ‹Adventurer›, but ‹Adventurer› was definitely in that list so it was a swift rejection.
Kairi was all green in personality as well so I had her rounded up as our new member.
On the side note, the ‹Adventurer› had fallen on his knees and shed river of tears at the rejection apparently. Misato informed me of that scene with her signature 'Tahaha~' smile. It seemed like he was one of her acquaintances from the way she spoke.
When I asked her 'will he be alright?', she replied back with 'It should be'. Either way, that was how the scouting for Kairi, ‹Seeker›, had gone.
It sucks, O' ‹Adventurer›. But this is life, huh.
Come to think of it, he later said something like "Since the connection isn't going to work, I'll prove my worth by passing it on my own." I wonder what he must be doing now?
