Chapter 186
186 Another Reason
Zhang Li Xue met Bai Qi’s gaze and wondered if he knew what she was trying to do. She bit the end of her chopsticks briefly before letting it go.
She took a deep breath and flashed him a smile. “Why do you ask me this question?” Her head tilted to one side. “Why can’t I be nice to you? Aren’t we friends?”
Bai Qi lowered his gaze and a faint smile that did not reach his eyes appeared.
It turned out that his little fairy was only being nice to him because they were friends.
Then... would she treat all her friends the same way? Then... what about Mu Zhen Yu? Was she nice to him too because they were friends?
Bai Qi could not help but feel a little disappointed by her answer.
He realized that he did not want Zhang Li Xue to be nice to him just because they were friends. He had hoped that to his little fairy, he would be a little special.
Bai Qi looked up again. “Well, you are right. We are friends.” He shifted his gaze to the takeaway boxes in front of him and spoke, “Let’s eat quickly before the food gets cold.”
“Oh.” Zhang Li Xue nodded.
.....
As the man lowered his head to eat again, Zhang Li Xue continued to secretly observe him.
She could sense the change in his mood. They were sitting too close to each other. Because of that, Zhang Li Xue noticed how the light in his eyes dimmed.
Bai Qi seemed to be bothered upon hearing her answer.
What does this mean?
Could she consider this as Bai Qi wanting to be more than friends with her?
Just as the thought came to her mind, Zhang Li Xue quickly warned herself not to daydream. Bai Qi was always a gentleman. According to her observation, this man did not seem to have an interest in another girl.
Perhaps, Bai Qi had not thought of getting into a relationship. This man was too busy raising his little sister as well as doing his best at work.
A faint sigh escaped her.
The two of them continued to eat in silence.
This situation made the talkative Zhang Li Xue uncomfortable. She glanced at Bai Qi again and asked, “Bai Qi.”
“Hmm?” Bai Qi finally raised his head to look at his little fairy.
“Are you in a bad mood?”
Bai Qi paused. He wondered if the change in his mood was too apparent.
He shook his head and spoke, “No.” He forced an assuring smile. “I was just thinking about work matters.”
As he said those words, Bai Qi realized that he needed to change the topic fast before his little fairy might find out something about him.
“That’s right. He Rong called earlier,” Bai Qi spoke. “He said that he will be coming to Y City at the end of the month. Mmm... I remember that you were friends with his wife, right?”
Just like that, Bai Qi had successfully shifted his little fairy’s attention.
“Huan Huan is coming? Hey, that girl didn’t say anything to me.”
Zhang Li Xue wondered if he should confront her friend about this matter. However, she won’t know how to explain that she had heard this news from Bai Qi, right?
“She probably wanted to surprise you,” Bai Qi said. “Last time, you were her bridesmaid. How did you get to know He Rong’s wife?”
“Mmm... My mother and Huan Huan’s late mother were friends. They were roommates at university. Because of that, Huan Huan and I were quite close as well.” Zhang Li Xue smiled. “Who would have thought that when we both entered the university, the two of us would stay as roommates as well.” She looked at Bai Qi and asked. “Then, how about you? How did you get to know He Rong?”
“We met at a convention in S Country,” Bai Qi said. “He Rong was giving a speech and I was one of the attendees.” The corner of his lips turned up as he recalled the conversation with He Rong earlier that day.
In the end, both Zhang Li Xue and Bai Qi ended up chatting about their friends as they ate their dinner. It was a bit hard to believe that they met again at the couple’s wedding.
Although both Zhang Li Xue and Bai Qi both wanted to spend their time longer together, they realized that Bai Qi needed to get back to his duty.
Bai Qi tidied up the takeaway box and spoke, “Thank you for accompanying me for dinner today. The food you cooked was especially delicious.”
Zhang Li Xue smiled. “Uh-huh. You are lucky. It was not easy for one to taste my cooking.”
Bai Qi chuckled.
Seeing that the place where they ate was now clean, he then gestured his hand to her. “Come on. I will walk you back to your car.”
Zhang Li Xue pondered over his suggestion and nodded.
The two walked to the parking lot and finally reached Zhang Li Xue’s AUDI.
“Drive carefully,” Bai Qi reminded her. “Remember to text me when you reach home.”
Zhang Li Xue nodded. “Un. I know.”
“You go first. I will go back into the hospital after you leave,” Bai Qi said.
Zhang Li Xue stared at the man in front of her and hesitated. “Bai Qi.”
“Hmm?”
“I have something to ask you.” Zhang Li Xue clenched her hand into a tight fist. In her mind, she continued to tell herself to be brave and shameless. “Are you seeing anyone?”
Bai Qi was stunned when he heard her question. He was still wondering if he had heard things wrongly, but seeing that Zhang Li Xue seemed to be waiting for his reply, Bai Qi finally spoke, “No.”
Zhang Li Xue let out a breath of relief. “Earlier, you were asking why am I nice to you.” She gathered her courage and spoke again. “Actually, there is another reason for it.”
Bai Qi shot her an inquiring look. Then, her next words gave him a shock.
“I’m chasing you.” Zhang Li Xue pushed a few strands of hair behind her ears. “I know that this was too sudden, but I just wanted to let you know that I like you.” She stood up straight and looked at the man in the eyes. “Bai Qi, I like you.”
His lips parted, but Zhang Li Xue had spoken again before he could make a sound.
“You don’t have to say anything You don’t have to give me any answer today or anytime soon,” Zhang Li Xue continued. “But I hope that you could take a look at me and take the time to consider me. Before that, I hope that you don’t reject me.”
Bai Qi’s head was spinning around. He was suddenly confessed to and he was unable to react.
It seemed that he had received too much shocking news today.
Zhang Li Xue flashed a smile. She felt more at ease after telling him all these. “Then, I will go back first. Doctor Bai, you should work hard.”
