Chapter 385

Chapter 385

'A bit weird she would apologize. They are doing their jobs well, this alone is worthy of some respect' I thought. Anyone could act as a spy, especially with Eterians going around and destroying cities. I entered one of the tents, and saw an empty bed. I was rather tired from all that running, I also used my energy constantly, to regenerate my wounds from that blast. I was already healed, but tired as hell. I laid down in the bed, and closed my eyes. I learned to be a light sleeper. This meant, any unusual movements or noises would wake me up. Living inside the wilderness for almost half of my life, taught me some things to be sure.

North was currently at war, but some places were still relatively safe. I woke up after a good sleep, and looked around. 'I forgot there are no seasons, or day and night cycles here' I thought. It's been a good few years, since I left the North. I was used to having sun and moon around, as well as the change of seasons. 'I wonder who placed that barrier of some sort around the whole North? Was it to trap something inside, or keep something away from the North?' I asked myself. I didn't know, and even speculation would be hard at this stage. I simply had no information about that whatsoever.

I left the tent, and walked around the streets of Sedon to have a look. The city was in bad shape, but its citizens fared one way or another. Although tension was present, it was still not bad for a city that experienced war. 'This is another reason I need to go to Apium. They have skilled craftsmen, and Sedon needs skilled craftsmen. If they can repair the walls, the city will be able to last much longer' I thought.

I was still happy to see Lizards and Shades cooperating well. If they had too many differences, the war might've been over much sooner. 'Although I have Yellow Dust, I need to leave that for an emergency. Lizards already used their share, or at least some of it, and there is no more to be collected' I thought. This was good and bad at the same time. Avians or rather Yagaroths would probably go against Lizards and Shades in that war. This would bring more disadvantages than benefits, if they survived.

I saw a few wounded people on my way. I had some weak poison, so I shared it with Shades. Lizards received my lesser medicine instead. It was still great for them, and I didn't charge anything for that. I wasn't heartless, nor was I ungrateful. Alicia already did a big favour for me, and the medicine or poison I passed to them, was nothing in comparison. 'I can provide them with more, but I need herbs. I never expected for the situation to be like this. Otherwise, I would gather many more herbs' I thought.

A few Shades saw what I did, and approached me. One of them asked "Are you a doctor?". I replied "Sort of, do you need help?". He replied "Me not, but there are others. If you can help us, please follow us". I nodded, and followed after the Shades. They took me inside one of the buildings, and I saw the true meaning of war. People with missing limbs, deep wounds, and some even dying on the makeshift beds. There were a few people attending to them, but from the looks of it, they didn't have proper doctors.

'I wonder why Harlin didn't say anything about that?' I asked myself. Most of these people were not soldiers, although soldiers were there as well. A lot of them were Shades, but a few Lizards laid amongst them. The Shade that took me there asked "Can you help them? We know its a lot of work, so we can even reward you…". I stopped him, and said "Stop joking around. I don't need rewards. I will help as much as I can, but I need herbs to treat so many people… Let me help them out for now. I have something in mind for later". He nodded his head, and thanked me.

I went around the room, and helped those I could. When someone was missing an arm, I could do very little if the arm was not present. I also had no medicine to reconnect the limbs, especially for Shades. I could only clean their wounds, and numb the pain. For those with broken limbs, I would realign the bones, and apply medicine before wrapping them up in bandages with sticks. Those with minor wounds were patched up, but I had to preserve my medicine as well. There were around hundred if not more people in that building alone.

It took me a while to finish, but I managed somehow. The Shade who brought me to that house walked over, and I could already feel a headache coming. He said "We are grateful that you helped us out. We really are. You skills are superb, and we could only wish to have more people like you here". I replied "Cut to the chase. There are more of them right? This is not the only house with wounded people, am I right?". He nodded, and said "I'm sorry. I know this is asking a lot…". I stopped him, and said "Show me the way. If I can help, I will help. I can do at least that much".

He nodded his head, and thanked me again. We went to another house, not far away. Another crowd of wounded people sat there. There were more Lizards this time, but the injuries were not as severe. Before I began, I said "I will need space, and soil. I will also need people who are willing to help me". The Shade replied "I can help with anything you want! I can get more people too!". I nodded my head, and said "Good, because there is loads of work to be done. What is your name?".

The Shade replied "I'm called Lerry… I'm just a scavenger but…". I stopped him, then said "Doesn't matter who you are, you care for these people and that is what matters. Lerry, go to Harlin, and tell him I sent you. As for the purpose, tell him I need a field. I don't care how he gets it, I need a field inside the city. Tell him Nex sent you". Lerry asked confused "Harlin? Do you mean General Harlin? You want me to go tell him that?". I said "Yes, is there a problem?". He shook his head, and replied "No! No problem. I will go there right now. Please help them". I nodded, and walked inside the house.

I took care of the most serious injuries, and patched up anything that wasn't a major injury. I was running low on my medicine already. Treating that many people, exhausted most of my supply. I didn't use the superb medicine on these people, as it was reserved for me or people close to me. I would help, but not make myself go bust.

While I was finishing with the remaining patients, I heard a familiar voice "A field you say? How am I supposed to get you one here?". It was Harlin. I turned around, and said "Just give me a small area with soil. I can cultivate it myself, or rather I will teach people here to cultivate it. The herbs will take time to grow, and I will need them for either medicine or poison. If Sedon wants to survive, they should make multiple fields. Their chances at survival would increase as well".

Harlin nodded, and said "I will convey your message to Shades. You can take some of the space where our tents are located. After we leave, most of the area will be vacant". I nodded my head, then replied "Then remove some tents, and I will instruct people here to cultivate the field". I then turned towards Lerry, and said "You will be the first to learn, and then teach others. Are you up for it?". Lerry stood there rooted, and looked at us. I asked "Lerry?". He snapped out of it, and replied "I'm! I want to help out too!". That was good enough. I said "Great. Let me wrap this up here, and we can leave towards our new field".
