Chapter 209 - Can’t Sleep
Despite how late it already was, Kimmy was staring at the ceiling, wide-eyed as she recalled what happened between her and Cain. She was obviously bothered by it even if she pretended not to.
She would not be able to see Cain the same way again. She was conscious that she was falling for him. She couldn't control her feelings even if she wanted to.
Cain was supposed to be the man she would marry in the past but then… she ran away. She wanted to be free. She didn't want to be tied down by her mother. She hated her mother back then for forcing her into something she was not even ready for.
And yet, look at how the events turn? Who would have thought that she was going to work under him for 3 months? Days were always slow because of him and now, she ended up falling for the man she had been avoiding.
She turned, hugging the pillow beside her as she thought that Cain was not a bad man. In fact, he was kind… even if there were times when she felt annoyed at him. He may be teasing her from time to time but that didn't mean that he was a bad person.
Kimmy was reminded of the words that her mother said to her in the past. Her mother told her that Cain was the 'perfect man' for her. Not only did he have a good reputation but he had a good personality.
She remembered her mother's words so clearly that day when she protested against the arranged marriage.
"I want you to be happy. I'm doing this because I know what's best for you," Leila explained as she tried her best to calm down the rioting Kimmy.
"What's best for me?! You think that's what's best for me?! You never even asked me about what I want!"
Kimmy hugged the pillow tighter when she recalled her argument with her mother, Leila. Ever since then, she escaped during the day of her marriage and had been on the run, away from her mother.
Although as time passed, Kimmy's anger for her mother subsided but she never had the courage to face her again. She knew her mother, she would either scold her or put her into another arranged marriage.
Kimmy wanted to enjoy the life around her. She was not ready to be tied down by marriage to a man she didn't even know.
Even if she wanted to enjoy and party around, that didn't mean that her mind was closed against possible relationships. She was willing to be in one as long as the man loved her as well. She was only going to marry the man she was going to love in the future.
And yet, here she was right now. Sleepless and was bothered by the man she was supposed to marry in the past.
Cain probably hated her for what happened in the past. Or maybe not. They were strangers after all.
As for what happened to them earlier, he never tried to push her away when she kissed him… even during the time when she was drunk. He always had… kissed back.
Kimmy felt her cheeks burning when she thought about how he responded. The way his tongue worked with hers in her mouth, how his lips moved passionately against hers… she liked it. She liked how he kissed her back.
Her heart pounded fast and thumped loudly against her chest when she remembered his warm touch on her breast.
"Oh gosh… he touched my breast." She felt even more embarrassed now. How could she allow him to do that? During that time, it was not like she felt like he trespassed his boundaries, especially when they were in the heat of the moment but… how should she face him now?
It was not going to be easy to pretend like nothing happened. They were not even in a relationship so they shouldn't have done that.
But then… They were both adults. It was not like one-night stands were a rare thing. In fact, it was a common thing nowadays! Even some of her party friends already had those experiences!
"Ugh! What am I even thinking? It's not like I had a one night stand with him!" She grumbled under her breath.
She had never had an experience when it came to sex so she rather give her first to someone she love than giving it to a stranger.
Kimmy shut her eyes tight, hoping to fall asleep.
A few minutes passed before a groan was heard from her. "I need some milk."
Milk has always been the best drink for her to fall fast asleep. She sat up and got off from her bed.
She was wearing a spaghetti strap tank top and pajama shorts. She was not wearing any bra. She didn't have to wear one especially when it was already late at night. No was going to be awake. Or she thought…
When she entered the kitchen, her eyes went wide in shock when she saw Cain, sitting at the stool by the counter and was having midnight snacks with milk as his drink.
Noticing her presence, he turned to her. His eyes traveled from her head down to her body. It was a good thing that her dark hair was long enough to cover her chest.
"W-Why are you still awake?" Kimmy couldn't stop herself from stuttering.
Unlike her, Cain was rather calm. "Got hungry." He placed the glass down on the counter as he looked at her with a brow raised. "And how about you? Why are you still awake?"
Kimmy pursed her lips, it wasn't her intention to draw his attention when she instinctively bit her lower lip. She wasn't able to see how dark his gaze became since she averted her eyes from him. "I… I can't sleep."
She was just like him.. Whenever their minds were bothered by something else, it was impossible for their eyes to wink a sleep, not when their brains kept on running, thinking about their worries… or maybe even the hot kiss they shared earlier.
