Chapter 129 - Regret
At Country B
Kimmy was having a hard time sleeping. Cain, being a good samaritan towards her, was bugging her so often. She was still baffled when she recalled how Cain took care of her that he did not leave until he made sure that she was doing just fine.
??
"What is this?!" she whispered, feeling annoyed because something weird was tingling in her chest. She heard a beep so she grabbed her mobile phone and looked at who messaged her.
[Don't forget to drink your medicine before you sleep.]
Kimmy's eyes blinked several times, making sure she was reading it correctly including the sender.
"Maybe he is being nice since I'm his patient?" she whispered. Cain should treat her coldly since that was what she was expecting from him. But then, she had to wait until tomorrow once she would see him after she was feeling better. She has yet to see if he would still treat her nicely or would start with his revenge thing in making her life miserable instead!
'I should give him a reply,' she mused as she began typing her two-word reply.
[Got it!]
A few seconds later,? her mobile phone rang and when she checked, it was a call from Kenzie.
"Boss!" Kimmy answered. It was Kenzie, the woman she had worked for as one of her bodyguards during her stay at country D. She kept her identity hidden from them at first but when her life was in danger while she was working under Kenzie, her uncle Tomy left them no choice but to disclose her identity to the Cha Family for fear that she would get hurt if she continued working as a bodyguard.
Uncle Tomy… she called the old man uncle even though they were not really blood-related. He was an old man she saved during her tour in another country. Uncle Tomy, who had a position at one of the best security agencies, helped her with her hiding all these years while keeping her identity as a hidden Princess.
"Hey, stop calling me Boss when you're definitely richer than me!" Kenzie bantered from another line.
Kimmy only laughed and replied, "But you're still my Boss."
"How are you doing there? You know that you can still come back here, right?" Kenzie said.
Kimmy heaved a sigh and whispered, "I have to get away. It's no longer healthy for me to stay, Boss. I'm hurt whenever I see him. I feel like my heart might explode anytime soon."
"That damn brute is a stone. I told you that numerous times already. Harry is dead set on not giving his heart. You know why."
"Yeah, I know. He still feels like he doesn't deserve to be happy so he will just kill himself with work," Kimmy whimpered. She tried her best to get closer but Harry would always push her away.
She actually did not know why she was too drawn to him but Kenzie would always justify her actions by telling her that she only pitied him. Even Harry himself would tell her not to pity him.
"You still sound sulky. Just enjoy being back at home and if you get bored, then come back here. Or we can also visit you there if you want. You see, someone is also bugging me and Sarah to see you," Kenzie teased.
Kimmy chuckled because she already knew who it was. Funny. She seemed to attract a lot of men so how come Harry was not one of them?
"I'm stuck here for three months at most so you guys should visit me here instead. I will introduce you to my family and give you a nice vacation in our country. So surprise me, visit me, Boss!" she beamed. Just the thought of her close friends who were more like a family to her taking a visit in her place made her giddy and excited.
"Why are you stuck there for three months? What happened? You're grounded?" Kenzie asked her.
Kimmy laughed and replied, "Hmm, you are aware that I ran away from an arranged marriage, right? Well, the groom… I just met him and I feel bad for uncle Daniel, his father. It happened that uncle Daniel had a heart attack when I left and half of his body was paralyzed.
So I told his son, who is also that groom, who turned out to be the current royal family head doctor, that I'm willing to pay for the damage I caused that time. What he wants is for me to serve him for three months, more like doing household chores and cooking stuff but I suck at that so I suggested that I'll be his driver and personal assistant instead."
"What is this? Why do I feel like you are now entering a phase in your life where you will be healing your heart and will end up falling in love for real? It sounds like a cliche romance story," Kenzie teased, laughing.
"Stop that, Boss!" Kimmy scoffed.
"I won't not until you address me with my name! I'm no longer your Boss so just call me Kenzie!"
"Fine Kenzie. I'm still used to calling you Boss but anyway, what you're implying will definitely not happen. That man hated me!" Kimmy huffed with a pout.
"What does he look like?" Kenzie asked her and she could sense the curiosity in the tone of her voice.
"Good," Kimmy plainly answered. Kenzie was aware that she did not bother checking on who was the groom she had run away from. Not even knowing his name nor how he looked.
"Is he handsome? Answer me with yes or no only," Kenzie asked.
"Yes."
"Are you regretting it now that you ran away after you saw him? Yes or no?" Kenzie asked next.
"What?!" Kimmy exclaimed.
She heard Kenzie's loud chuckle before she added, "I guess you're regretting it! Anyway, I have to go now. My baby is crying. Goodnight Kimmy!"
Kimmy heard the end call beep so she put down her phone and readied herself to sleep.
"Regret? Why would I? I just feel bad that uncle Daniel had to suffer like that because of what I did," she whispered. Yet Kimmy could not help but wonder how things would turn out if she chose not to run away?
Her father and mother's setup were the same… It was an arranged marriage and yet look how messed up their relationship ended? She did not want to end up like them, marriage for convenience. If she would marry, she wanted it for love.
