Chapter 136 - Destination
The two hours passed by Faster than Lena had expected them to as the timer she had set on her watch caused her wrist to vibrate. It was the best way she thought to keep track of how long passed and when she needed to really pay attention to her surroundings for land marks and anything else that would indicate the area she was in.
Clive had insisted on taking one of the unmarked cars they went out in for general trips in order to not stand out since they were moving into territory that was outside of their own. The windows were also tinted enough that they didn't have to worry about anyone being able to see in from the outside. The princess was thankful for this when she noticed how crowded the area that they were was.
"It looks like from what I can tell we're in eastern Jersey. Somewhere outside of West New York perhaps, I can't really tell because I'm not seeing anything distinct that's sticking out to me." She told them as she looked around. Aside from the large crowds and other vehicles, all of the buildings that she could see looked like all the other building that she had seen in Jersey.
"That sounds fairly accurate from what I am seeing here on the GPS. It looks like so far even though you're getting closer that your signal isn't glitching yet." Hester told her while he was double checking everything on his end.
"I'll let you know if anything changes, but just keep an eye out for anything that I might be able to mark. I'm doing what I can see here from what I can tell based on the map, but that's not as accurate as what you can see there."
"Right." She replied as she kept looking around. It felt somehow being outside of her territory and entering another. Most of the business she had been involved in had never required her to step foot into another groups territory.
Even though nothing in the outside world appeared any different from the territory that the Red Scorpions was over, the air somehow felt different and she was certain that she wasn't the only one in the car that felt this way. Clive and Romeo had more experience that she did in working in different territories, but the tension was still thick because it was hard to tell what or who could be trusted in such situations.
Not being able to find anything distinct to tell Hester, she decided instead to work on reading off the street signs that they passed by instead so that it was at least accurate to track that way up until the point that she needed to text Jovani and ask what she should be looking for.
There was a few minutes of silence following the text that she sent as he didn't reply right away for whatever reason, but when he did respond she didn't feel that the text helped her that much. The only directions that he gave her was to keep going forward for another mile before taking the next two rights, another mile and she should see what she was looking for. Was the building that obvious? Or was it something else that she should've been looking for that?
"Considering the direction that we are heading in princess I can't help but wonder if what we will be looking for is something akin to a warehouse." Clive broke the silence after she had relayed the directions to him. It made the most sense considering the direction that they were heading in.
"That will perhaps be the case, but nothing really good happens when the meeting place is determined to be a warehouse." The princess replied with a wry smile, momentarily forgetting that her father and anyone else on the other end of the phone could hear what she was saying.
She knew though that her father wouldn't like hearing what kind of place she was heading to. Warehouses tended to be dark and risky. Too much space and too many dark corners that would make it easy for someone to hide in if they so desired to do so. For those who knew their way around it they were granted an amazing advantage but for those who didn't know what they were stepping into- it could end up being their death sentence.
Lena was too tense herself though as the minutes went by to say anything to assure her father who she was certain was over worrying that everything would be okay. Even though nothing had happened and it didn't seem that any cars were following them- at the back of her mind the idea that it was a trap still was lurking which caused her to be on high alert to all the little things she noticed around her.
Clive had pretty much been right on the money when he suggested it might be a warehouse they were heading to, except that it looked like it had been modified in some ways. It was certainly out of the way from the rest of the traffic, but yet discrete at the same to anyone who would notice wouldn't think that there was anything suspicious about it if they came around the area. Lena got the feeling though this was only a rendezvous point rather then were the main part of the territory was located.
She explained to her father where they were at but didn't get as far as messaging Jovani for what was expected next when she got a text from him presuming that it had been long enough for her to reach where he had instructed. He had more instructions for her that included a code and to head around to the back of the building because the front entrance wasn't for guests. She wasn't quite sure what he meant by that but wouldn't take a risk in trying.
Without saying anything to anyone she shut off the earbuds she had been wearing and put them in one of her jacket pockets. Now that she was actually here she wouldn't be able to talk with anyone anyways and didn't want to risk anything being picked up if she left them on. Now she would just have to brace herself for whatever she would be getting into once she got inside.
