Chapter 55 - Gold Badge
Halt!
Ban and George stopped on their tracks yet again.
Behind them, two guards were pointing their swords towards them threateningly.
They slowly walked towards the guard who pissed his pants earlier as they watched Ben and George's movement closely.
"Why are you attacking a guard on duty?" One of the guards said. He arrived in front of the guard who pissed his pants and he could also not help but cover his nose in disgust.
Even the last guard also decided to cover his nose. He thought that if he didn't do it, he would surely puke what he ate earlier.
That's when the two noticed that aside from the liquid, there was also another substance from under his crotch.
Ban and George turned around, and they could not help but ask if it was yet another scam.
Seeing that Ban had no intention to answer, George hurriedly explained what happened before. However, before he could finish, the guard who pissed, and shit on his pants earlier decided to interrupt and deny his claims.
"That's not the truth, I was only asking for their Adventurers Badge when that mask… masked person suddenly attacked me!"
"Ridiculous! You were clearly trying to scam Sir Leon for asking for an entrance fee, just because you are not familiar with Sir Leon, and you even attacked me for exposing your deeds. And besides, Sir Leon did not even lay a finger on you, how shameless!" George yelled at the top of his lungs feeling frustrated by the obvious lie that the guard was spouting.
The two guards frowned at the same time as they could not decide which one to believe.
They've also heard about the scam and they were even tempted to do it themselves for some extra income.
However, they did not do it in the end as that is not the reason why they became an Inner City Guard.
The two stared at each other before they turned their heads towards Ban and George.
"We don't exactly know what happened, but the lying party would surely be penalized. For starters, you two were going to the Adventurers Market, right?"
George nodded his head in response while Ban remained silent.
"Alright! So, you do know that to enter the Adventurers Market, one needs to be an Adventurer, or have a companion that is an Adventurer, right?"
"If so, can we please look at your Adventurers Badge first?"
"Alright!" Ban was the one to respond at this time.
He wanted to reach into his pocket and pretend that the Badge he was about to get came from there. However, he later decided against it as he thought that it would be better to appear unfathomable in front of these guards.
He flicked his hands swiftly and at that moment, a badge materialized directly into his palm. He stored it on the Dimensional Storage earlier as he did not want to lose it. After all, it was a Gold Rank Badge and he did not want to lose it just like that.
George and the two guards' eyes went wide in surprise when they saw the magical thing in front of them. His hands were clearly empty just a moment ago and yet at the next instant, he was already holding onto something.
It's either he moved extremely fast for them to be unable to see it, or he did something they could not comprehend, either way, the move screamed 'Expert' and neither of the guards wanted to offend such a person. They stared at each other and it was clear now which person they needed to suck up with.
And just as Ban was about to reveal the Adventurers Badge, the guard on the ground suddenly stood up and pointed his hands towards Ban with eyes full of hostility.
"What are you two doing? Aren't you gonna apprehend him, he just assaulted a guard on duty, he should pay 5 Gold Coins as compensation and 10 days in prison!"
The two guards frowned at him as they clearly understood now who's the real troublemaker. After all, if one was proven to assault a guard on duty, they only need to pay 1 Gold Coin for the first offense without being detained. The punishment will more than double every time the same person assaulted the guards again and if done on many occasions, the higher-ups might need to deal with the assailant and the worst thing to happen is immediate execution.
The scammer guard was still spouting nonsense but the two guards no longer paid attention to his nonsense. Instead, they stared at Ban and the badge on his hands, waiting for him to reveal it.
"Please show us your Adventurers Badge before we can let you enter the Adventurers Market." One of the two guards said calmly.
Ban spun his fingers and finally revealed the glistening Gold Rank Badge on his hands.
The people around him stared at the badge with wide eyes in shock again.
Even the scammer guard also stopped talking nonsense at this point as his mouth dropped to the ground in shock.
A while later, one of the guards finally recovered from his shock as he said with a trembling voice, "C-can I check if it's legit?"
"Sure!" Ban responded calmly with his unreal voice that sounded neither near nor far.
He then handed the badge towards the guard in which the latter carefully received with sweats rolling down his cheeks.
He flipped it around and confirmed the stamp from the Guild Leader behind it.
'It's the real deal!' He exclaimed inside him before handing back the Gold Badge towards Ban again.
"I'm sorry for the trouble sir! I have already proven your innocence and you can now enter freely in the Adventurers Market!" The guard bowed his head deeply towards Ban before walking towards his companion guard and the scammer guard calmly.
"It's real!" He said after seeing his companion's questioning gaze.
His companion nodded his head and as if they practiced it for a dozen times already, the two suddenly turned towards the scammer guard and pin him down hard to the ground with great teamwork.
The scammer guard was taken aback and he just realized that he fucked up another time. However, he did not give up in the end as he reasoned, "It's a fake, check it another time! There's no way he could really be a Gold Rank Adventurer, it must be a counterfeit. He needs to pay a sum of coins for forging a fake Gold Rank Badge!"
"I said, let go of me!"
